It’s one thing to merely desire something; it’s quite another to hunger for it, to thirst for it!
The Hunger of Man……by me J. L. Russell 12/9/2016
We see it everywhere we go, there are those who hunger to get where they are going. Can’t get there fast enough, passing or going around one car after another, only to meet up at the next red light. We see it in stores. People fussing because this or that is not in stock, or the checkout lanes are not going fast enough. Then there are those who hunger after wealth. They are either at their job or conducting business after hours almost 24/7. Most of them trying to accumulate as much wealth as they can, only to end up dying young from the stress, never being happy or being alone most of the time. They stay on the go so much they become friends with people at the airport, taxi services, and hotels. The amount in their bank account may be big but the number of friends or family members they spend time with is almost zero.
Then there are those who hunger after items, possessions, must have the latest gadget that comes out, no matter the cost. They want the biggest TV, the hottest toy, the new cell phone that does about everything, only to get tired of it quickly and anxiously waits for the next new gadget to come out.
Then there are those who hunger after a title, a name for themselves. They run over everyone and anyone who gets in their way as they climb that ladder. Doesn’t matter who they hurt, they want their name at the top and they will stop at nothing to get it there. They make enemies as they make their way up, never being happy. Some of them end up having to climb back down that ladder, meeting those they walk on as they come down.
Yes, there are many types of hungers in this world, these are just a few, but there is a hunger that beats all of this. It’s never ending and gives you strength when you need it the most. When you hunger after it, you will feel like you can never get enough. You change, your lifestyle changes, and the people you are around the most may even change. This is a hunger that’s never-ending, it’s a hunger beyond words. It’s a hunger that can and will fill your heart so full that you don’t think you can get any more inside it, but you do.
What is that hunger? It’s the hunger for the Lord! When you truly have given your heart to Him, you see things of this world in a different way. When you have truly given your heart to the Lord, you look at others with love instead of judgment. When you truly give your heart to the Lord, you feel like you can never get enough of Him. When you truly have given your heart to the Lord, the things of this world start to become not as important.
I pray that you come to know and feel that hunger for the Lord. I pray that you come to feel how He hungers after your heart. I pray that you come to know how strong His love is for you. I pray if you haven’t already given your heart to Him that you will do it now.
Come to Him and He will come to you. This is when the Bible verses about no longer being hungry and thirsty will all of a sudden make complete sense to you.
John 5:13-14 Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.
John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
