I had a dream early one morning. I was standing in a room looking out a big window. I was looking at what was a wide concrete ramp, that went up at an angle. As I stood there looking out, I see a young man. a fisherman, walking up the ramp, from my left to my right. In each hand he held a big fish through the gills, they were 3 to 4 feet long. He was smiling and very proud of his catch.
Then I looked back to my left at the bottom of the ramp and there is another fisherman, an older man, he was also holding two fish in his hands. The thing was he was only holding the heads, the rest of the fish was gone. Yet he was so happy about catching those two fish, even though the rest of the body of the fish was not there. It was like he caught a prize that was worth so much. I know the meaning of the dream. The fisherman are us, Jesus said, I will make you fisherman of men. Matthew 4:19 “Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”
The thing is there was a difference between the two of them. The one who I saw first, he wanted everyone to see what he caught, to be seen, to be in the front, to be known for what he was able to do. The other he was happy to stand back, to have those two fish heads. We have two different people who serve God. One is wanting to be known, seen, noticed for what he is doing for God. The other is one who reaches out to what many call the unwanted (the fish heads), he reaches out to many that others turn away.
This very short, very simple dream spoke a lot to me, and I pray it speaks a lot to you.
Proverbs 21:2 “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.”
