The Little Boy by me J.L. Russell

The Little Boy by me, J.L. Russell, October 24, 2013

There once was a little boy who sat on the porch watching life go on all around him. He saw the birds gathering material to make their nest, he saw the squirrels gathering nuts for the winter and he saw the clouds drift by in the sky. He did not like being inside the house. Many days he would ask his mother if he could sit there. He would not bother anyone and most of the time hardly made a sound, he would just sit there staring, listening, and watching life all around him.

As he was sitting there that morning, he heard a noise. He turned to see his mother walking out onto the porch. She slowly walked over sitting down beside him and asked, “Son, what are you doing? You have been out here all day.” “I am looking at all the things God created the beauty of it all. I saw a mother bird trying to teach her little ones to fly today. I watched a squirrel gathering and storing food so it could have something to eat each day. I saw a sparrow being taking from the sky by a hawk, never to see its family again and I watched as other kids ran up and down the street having fun and playing. I watched as many cars drove by. Mom, I saw so many things today just sitting here watching life go by.” he said. She smiled, pulled him close and kissed him on his forehead, thinking “I never want to let you go,” as tears poured out of her eyes.

The little boy let his mother hold him for what seemed like hours but were just minutes then he pulled back looking into his mother’s eyes. What he saw were tears flowing and pain showing that day. As he reached up to wipe the tears from his mother’s face, he said, “Mom don’t cry, I will soon be in heaven. I don’t want to leave you, but God has other plans. Remember Mom that I will no longer be in pain. This weak body that I now have that shows the signs that it is fading away, will be renewed, restored, I will be given a new body today. I will be walking among the clouds and sitting with Jesus waiting for you to join me one day.” He took a deep breath and went on to say.

“As days and months go by mom and your heart is missing me remember I am always with you. Just look inside your heart, there I will be, for you see mom our hearts were connected from the day I was conceived.” He laid his head down in mothers lap and a few tears rolled down his face. He then closed his eyes never to open them again and stepped into heaven never to know pain again. The shell of the body that he once knew was left there on the porch still in his mother’s loving embrace.

She Once Held His Little Hand by me J.L. Russell 9/30/2020

She once held his little hand but now all she holds is what he left behind. She once saw his smiles and heard his laughs but now he is laying there with his head in her lap. Her heart was hurting more than words could say for today was the day her little boy went away. Yet she knew in her heart she would see him one day because he was in heaven where she also will be one day. Even though he went away the love she had for him was in her heart to stay.

1 Corinthians 15:42-44 “It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever. Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.”
